Costume Design for Manzil: A Creative Journey Through the Pandemic
As a costume designer, working on Manzil, a Covid-19 themed song produced by Khoosat Films in collaboration with @usembislamabad, was a unique and rewarding experience. Directed by Sarmad Khoosat, this song, featuring powerful performances by Atif Aslam and Shae Gill, explores the impact of the pandemic while spreading a hopeful message.
The challenge for me was to design costumes that not only reflected the emotional gravity of the situation but also brought out the spirit of resilience and unity. Each outfit was carefully crafted to mirror the diverse range of emotions, from fear to hope, that the world experienced during the pandemic. Collaborating with such a talented team—including the creators behind the beautiful music, catchy lyrics, and stunning visuals—was truly a rewarding experience.
In this project, every costume choice had a purpose, contributing to the overall storytelling of Manzil. From the vibrant looks of Sarwat Gilani’s character to the subtle, yet powerful wardrobe details, the costumes helped elevate the song’s message.
Manzil is not just a song, but a visual and emotional experience, and I am proud to have been part of this journey. The pandemic is not over yet, but this song reminds us of the strength and hope we continue to carry forward.
